In a bid to augment the healthcare facilities in the city, Lucknow’s Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences will operate with an increased count of emergency beds from November onward. As per reports, the authorities have decided for a seven-fold hike from the current figure of 30 beds to 210 units, withing the next two months. Once the plans are materialised, SGPGIMS will have the second highest number of emergency beds in the state, after KGMU.
Nearly 600 emergency hospitals present across hospitals in Lucknow

The premier medical institute in the city, caters to a large count of patients from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Due to heavy daily influx and a limited number of beds in the hospitals, patients have to face a lot of troubles and run from one hospital to another. Meanwhile, they also suffer on the financial front, in search of the necessary treatment. In view of these issues, the officials have now intervened with the latest scheme to increase the number of beds.
As per reports, Lucknow has a total of 600 emergency beds at the prominent government hospitals in the city. On the other hand, it has been reported that daily emergency cases in Lucknow, stand at around five times this number. Thereby, it had become important to amplify the number of beds for the benefit of the patients.
KGMU houses the maximum number of emergency beds

As per reports, Dr. R.K. Dhiman, the director of SGPGIMS, informed that the emergency beds will be ready for use by November. Reportedly, patients will be admitted with the help of an advanced system, wherein information about the vacant beds will be provided regularly. As of now, KGMU Trauma Centre has the highest count of 400 beds, followed bed Lohia Hospital, Civil Hospital and Balrampur Hopsital, which have 45 beds each.
