Tea break over, rains drench Lucknow; water logging reported at multiple places

After a week of dry skies, heavy rainfall hit Lucknow around 4 PM on Friday, ending the monsoon’s brief tea break, just as Knocksense had mentioned. Dark clouds loomed large, strong winds clocked at 30–50 km/h swept through the city, and the skies finally let loose, offering much-needed respite from the heat.

The day began with bright sunshine and sweltering humidity. But by afternoon, the skies had other plans! The downpour brought much-needed relief from rising temperatures and sticky air.

IMD’s rain alert kicks in

Knocksense had earlier shared an update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which had predicted moderate to heavy rainfall across eastern UP, starting July 25. Intermittent rainfall is expected over the next four to five days. In addition to Lucknow, moderate to heavy rainfall has been forecast in Ayodhya, Sitapur, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Amethi, Rae Bareli, Bahraich, Shravasti, Unnao, and surrounding areas.

Eastern UP districts such as Prayagraj, Kaushambi, the Vindhya region, Chandauli, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, and Deoria are also likely to experience heavy showers.

Thanks to intense heat over the past 3–4 days, day and night temperatures in Uttar Pradesh had jumped 4°C above normal, creating a spell of unbearable humidity. With this fresh wave of showers, intermittent rain is expected for the next 4–5 days, helping bring those numbers down.

Waterlogging & traffic jams incoming

While the rain brought cool winds and relief, it also brought trouble on the roads. Expect waterlogging and traffic snarls in parts of the city over the next few hours.
