After resolving to execute the provisions of National Education Policy 2020 for its postgraduate courses, Lucknow University has now proposed to implement the stated guidelines for its undergraduate programs. Revamping the three-year degree program to a four-year course, the university will allow multiple options of entry and exit for its undergraduate students from the upcoming academic session.
Certificates to be provided at the end of each year of the 4-year program
By recognising each academic session in the course with a specified certificate, the university would felicitate the youth who wish to leave the course midway. This would aid the students who want to start working or preparing for competitive exams at any point in the course.
According to the fresh rules, a student will be awarded a certificate after the completion of their 1st year of the course. This would be upgraded to an advanced diploma degree post the end of the second year. If a student leaves the program after three years, he/she will be awarded a bachelor’s degree which would be enhanced to a ‘bachelor’s degree with research’, after the entire timeline of the course is successfully completed.
Latest provisions to offer students a personalised course timeline
According to reports, multiple meetings of a group of experts and academics will be held to decide the structure and curriculum of the UG programs. The expert group would also decide if the courses will be specified under ‘honours’ or ‘non-honours’ category. Reportedly, the Vice-Chancellor said that the latest changes would equip the students with facilities to re-design the time-frame of the course as per their own convenience. Now, the students will have amplified autonomy over their degree course which would help them in better planning of their career.
The students who leave the course midway will be allowed to join the course later when they intend to. With the modified structure of the courses, students will have enhanced control over the planning of their academic careers. Given the path-breaking changes suggested by the National Education Policy, it is assured that it would reap significant results in the direction of its objectives.
