Uttar Pradesh’s upcoming Film City is all set to transform Noida into a magnetic location for the stakeholders in the entertainment industry. Likely to be constructed in January next year, this world-class facility will come up at Sector-21 of the Yamuna Expressway Development Authority (YEIDA) zone of Gautam Buddh Nagar district. Boosting job opportunities in the state, this project is expected to provide employment to 15,000 people.
The road map of the proposed construction plan
Spread over an area of 1,000 acres, this ‘Infotainment City’ will be built on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at the cost of ₹6,000 crores, approximately. Set to be constructed in three phases, the upcoming establishment will get studios, open areas, amusement parks and villas, in the first stage.
Prepared after surveying the famous film cities of the world, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) features the proposed financial model for the construction of the Film City. It has been formalised as per the proposal of prominent filmmakers and the film policy of the state government. It includes phase-wise construction cost, arrangement of funds, the time limit for construction, maintenance, revenue and employment generation at the film city and the measures to develop it as a tourist destination.
Green flag by the DPR report fastens the preparation process
After the recent submission of the approved Detailed Project Report (DPR) by CBRE South Asia Private Limited (the consultant company) to the state government, the preparations for the construction of the Infotainment City have scaled up. According to Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of YEIDA, CBRE now has to get the bid document ready within three weeks. It will be followed by floating of a global tender in which both, domestic and foreign companies, will be able to participate.
By December 31, a company will be finalised and a 40-year agreement between the state government and the company will be undertaken to construct the Film City. Instead of leasing the area, a licence to build the Film City will be provided by the administration under the agreement.
Film City to be equipped with state-of-the-art digital technologies
With dedicated studios for shooting films, television shows, animation, web series, cartoon films and documentaries, the Film City will be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art digital technologies in the cinematic medium. The 3D studios at the centre will have sets rotating at 360 degrees.
Moreover, the Film City will also have a multi-level parking, convention centres, VFX studios, outdoor locations, clubhouses, shopping complexes, food courts and much more. 5-star and 3-star hotels and resorts will also be accommodated inside the premises of the Infotainment City
Film university & other efforts to boost film tourism
In a bid to fuel up aspirations of setting up an attractive hub for the entertainment industry in the state, a film university has been proposed to be set up in the Film City. Students will be able to learn about the latest techniques of filmmaking and conduct research works on subjects related to films here. A special course on making advertisement films will also be a part of the curriculum at this institute.
To promote film tourism, special studios will be set up in the Film City, which will be built in such a way that people can enjoy the shootings live. Common Facility Centre will also be a part of this proposed film city, where people associated with the cinematic world will be able to get all the facilities needed, under a single roof.
