Over 1.5 lakh schools that are recognized by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB), have been instructed to stay closed till 30 June. This order was issued due to the second pandemic wave, however, now these schools will reopen on 1 July. Schools can call employees and academic staff based on their requirement but students will not be attending offline classes until further notice. An order regarding the same was issued on Tuesday night by the Secretary of UPBEB.
Schools to upgrade infrastructure under Operation Kayakalp
Post reopening of the government schools, it will be ensured that 100 per cent enrolment of students is undertaken. Apart from this, distribution of food, security allowance for mid-day meals and free books shall be given in a time-bound manner. However, e-pathshala under Mission Prerna shall continue until children return to the campus.
Further, schools have also been directed to finish the tasks that come under the ‘Operation Kayakalp‘ and endeavour to provide basic facilities like washrooms, boundary walls and drinking water, among other things. Under this operation, the situation of basic education in 2.65 lakh state-run schools will be improved through various initiatives, to fulfil the ‘Quality Education’ resolution of the state government.
For schools affiliated with CBSE & ICSE
Schools that are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), will make their own decisions in this matter. Their respective School Management Committees (SMCs) will be deciding whether the teachers and administrative staff will be called on duty from 1 July or not. Other than UPBEB, SMCs are authorised to take such decisions for schools.
