The state of Uttar Pradesh has decided to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 as ‘Yoga from Home’ to promote COVID protocols amid the pandemic rage. As per reports, all programmes organised in the favour of this celebratory day shall be bound by the norms of social distancing and other prohibitive guidelines. Meanwhile, all events at school campuses will remain suspended in wake of the blanket shutdown of all educational institutes in wake of the coronavirus scare.
Online competitions to propagate the idea of Yoga
In view of the prevailing pandemic situation, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has urged people to stay indoors and practise yoga with family, in compliance with precautionary protocols. Besides this, he has also directed officials to publicize the event to further promote yoga, its benefits and crucial importance amid the pandemic hour.
With this yardstick, the government has decided to hold online competitions, which will create favourable trends through social media platforms. Under this banner, several contests, such as yoga art competitions and yoga quiz, will be arranged. There will also be a segment for a yoga video competition where people will be rewarded the first, second and third prizes, under three categories. These segments will include women, men and professionals.
All people aged between 5 years to 60 years are invited to take part in these competitions. Structurally, it has been made compulsory to register at least 500 people in each level, under each category at the state level. Accordingly, each district has been tasked to induct 50 participants.
On the national scale, special programmes will be organised to commemorate Yoga Day. A live telecast of the Prime Minister’s speech on the event will also be aired by Doordarshan.
