You can’t skip summer, but you can make it this good; 11 things to do in Lucknow

The city is not slowing down, why should you?

Lucknow summers are genuinely brutal, and anyone who says otherwise hasn’t stood at a bus stop in June. But complaining only gets you so far. This city is running bhandaras, mango festivals, melas, park evenings, and ice cream runs all through the season, and you’re sitting inside doing nothing about it. The heat isn’t going anywhere, so you might as well make the most of it. Here’s your list, go use it.

Bhandara spree on Bada Mangal

Every summer, Lucknow does something no other city pulls off, it feeds everyone, no questions asked. Bada Mangal turns the entire city into one massive bhandara, and the scale of it will stop you in your tracks. Steaming halwa, boondi, puri, sabzi, raita, served with a warmth that just hits different. Dakshin Mukhi Hanuman Temple, Gol Market, HAL, Parivartan Chowk, every corner has a table set. And you’re always welcome!

Attend Bada Mangal melas

If bhandaras are the soul of Bada Mangal, the melas are the heartbeat, and nobody does it quite like Aliganj. The Purana Hanuman Mandir turns into an absolute spectacle every Tuesday of Jyeshtha, lights, music, crowds, chaos, and so much energy that you forget it’s peak summer. Indira Nagar C Block brings that same magic closer to home. Rides, street food, trinkets, and temple vibes all rolled into one, this is Lucknow summers at their most alive.

Try summer special drinks

Lucknow summers are no joke, but the city has its own delicious way of fighting the heat. Every market, every corner, every little thela has something cold and incredible waiting for you. A tangy shikanji that hits instantly, thick lassi that actually fills you up, smoky bel that you didn’t know you needed, raw mango aam panna that’s basically a lifesaver, and cold coffees for when you need both caffeine and survival. Sip your way through the city, seriously.

Visit water parks

When Lucknow summers get truly unbearable, and they will, there’s only one logical response, find the nearest water slide and commit. The city’s got some solid options to cool off and actually have a blast. Anandi Water Park, Nilansh Theme Park & Resort, MJ Fun City, Dream World Amusement Park, pick one, drag your people along, and spend a full day doing absolutely nothing responsible. Summer sorted.

Spend evenings at parks

Lucknow summers are brutal, but the evenings? That’s where the city redeems itself. The moment that the sun dips, grab your chappals and head out. Lohia Park, Happiness Park, UP Darshan Park, Harmony Park, Residency, pick any, show up, and just breathe. Kids going feral, couples on walks, aunties power-walking like it’s a competition. There’s something quietly perfect about a Lucknow park evening that no air conditioner can replicate.

Head out for a food crawl at Food Valley

Eating out in Lucknow summers sounds like a terrible idea, until Food Valley enters the conversation. They’ve gone and installed mist sprinklers, and suddenly an outdoor food outing in peak May heat actually makes sense. Cool air, great food, good company, the kind of evening where you order more than you planned just because you don’t want to leave. Lucknow found a way, as always.

Attend a show at Indira Gandhi Planetarium

Summer holidays, kids at home, everyone bored, and the heat making outdoor plans impossible, sounds familiar? The Indira Gandhi Planetarium is genuinely one of Lucknow’s most underrated family outings. Step inside, cool off completely, and watch the entire universe unfold above you. It’s the kind of place that leaves kids wide-eyed and adults quietly amazed. Educational, affordable, air-conditioned, and actually fascinating, this one’s a family plan that writes itself.

Indulge in some window shopping/movie night

Sometimes the best summer plan is the simplest one, walk into a mall, let the air conditioning do its thing, and just exist. Palassio and LuLu are Lucknow’s go-to escapes when the heat outside is genuinely unhinged. Browse stores you may or may not buy from, catch a movie, grab something cold, and wander around with zero agenda. It costs nothing to window shop and everything to stay home sweating.

Head to Ice cream parlours

If there’s one thing Lucknow summers absolutely demand, it’s ice cream, and the city is delivering. Ice Cream Masters is pulling out flavours that stop you mid-bite, Loops is that fun, generous, can’t-finish-it indulgence, and Sprinkle is where the aesthetic meets the actual scoop. Pick one, or do all three across the season, no shame here. When it’s this hot outside, ice cream stops being a treat and starts being a coping mechanism.

Attend mango tasting events

Lucknow summers have one religion, mangoes, and nobody does it like this city. Drive to Malihabad, pick your fave, Dussehri, Chausa, Safeda, and eat straight from the source like you’ve earned it. Want the full festival experience? Mango Fest at Fun Republic runs May 29-31, and LFM’s Mango Festival in Lakhimpur is on June 14. Multiple excuses, infinite mangoes. Summer in Lucknow hits different when it comes in a dozen varieties.

Visit indoor gaming zones

When the heat outside hits peak “absolutely not” levels, indoor gaming zones are the move, and Lucknow’s got some solid ones. Puno Advance, Funtura, Timezone, The Play Pad, each one is basically a portal out of summer and into full chaos mode. Racing games, bowling, arcade machines, VR, you name it. Perfect for solo runs, friend groups, or dragging the family somewhere everyone actually enjoys. Cool air, competitive energy, and no sunscreen required.
