Under the Mumbai Beautification Project, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to beautify the glorious city that is Mumbai. A profusion of beautification and redevelopment exercises which mainly comprise illumination across Mumbai are underway. BMC will take up prioritised action on some areas in Mumbai that are in most need of a touch-up.

Making Mumbai more photogenic

The project stresses on redevelopment of major traffic zones of Mumbai, along with illumination of pedestrian walkways and road junctions frequented by vehicular traffic. As a part of the beautification initiative, road sides will be adorned with street furniture, wall paintings and murals.

The initiative also includes enhancement of public toilets with installation of CCTV cameras, solar channels and charging points. The civil authority has been instructed to complete 50% of the work in three months i.e by December, 2022.

₹30.5 crore allotted to each department

Reportedly, the corporation is planning to invest a total of ₹1,705 crore. So far, out of the ₹790 crore that the BMC will spend in the first phase, a lion’s share of ₹500 crore has already been allotted to different administration departments for remaking Mumbai roads.

As per reports, ₹30.5 crore is allotted to 24 administration wards, out of which ₹6.5 crore will be utilized for beautification of road dividers, ₹4.5 crore for improvement of footpaths and ₹5 crore for illuminating footpaths. For beautification and other related enhancement, ₹3.25 crore has been chalked out.
