In view of rampantly rocketing pollution levels throughout the country, Mumbai has decided to keep its own air in check. For the same, the Bombay High Court has modified the earlier order (permission was initially given for the bursting of firecrackers for only three hours, i.e. between 7 PM-10 PM). However, now the revised order has limited the time to two hours — between 8 PM and 10 PM.
Moreover, reportedly, 150 fire cases are recorded yearly during the five days of Diwali. In order to avoid such incidents, the Mumbai Fire Brigade has been carrying out an awareness campaign.
Regulations for a Safe Diwali: Some dos and don’ts one should follow
The campaign aims to educate locals, especially at chawls and slums, around the precautions one can take to have a safe Diwali. Till now, officials have conducted as many as 167 lectures across Mumbai.
Here are some pointers to keep in mind:
-Children bursting crackers should be thoroughly supervised.
-Do keep a first-aid kit and bucket of water nearby as precautionary measures in case of injuries and burns.
-Do not burn firecrackers inside buildings or on staircases.
-Do not light and keep diyas near curtains.
-Avoid being near overhead electric wires, parking lots or pipelines while bursting crackers.
