Mumbai is set to become home to India’s first Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT), dedicated to Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comics and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR). Announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister, the institute will be established at Film City, Goregaon, with ₹400 crore in funding from the central government.
IICT and WAVES 2025 Summit to shape India’s future
The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) will be established as a National Centre of Excellence, comparable to the renowned IITs. Set in Film City, Goregaon, the institute aims to nurture talent and foster innovation in the rapidly expanding AVGC-XR sector. With a strong focus on developing Indian intellectual property inspired by the nation’s cultural heritage, IICT will serve as a hub for education, skill development, and industry collaboration.
Alongside this initiative, Mumbai will also host the World Audio-Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025) from May 1-4 at the Jio Convention Centre. The summit will bring together global industry leaders to discuss emerging technologies, investment opportunities, and policy advancements in media and entertainment.
With the launch of IICT and WAVES 2025, Mumbai is reinforcing its status as India’s entertainment capital and a rising global centre for creative technology. As India hosts over 4,000 studios specialising in high-quality AVGC-XR content, IICT is set to drive the nation’s growth in the global digital and creative industries.
