Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to charge an affordable entry fee for the new Malabar Hill walkway. The money will fund the ongoing maintenance and implementation of an automated crowd control system to manage visitor numbers. This will regulate footfall, ensuring a safe experience for all, with the walkway able to accommodate up to 417 people at once.
Mumbai’s First Jungle Walkway Unveiled
Stretching 427 metres from the Malabar Hill forest to the rock formations near Kamala Nehru Park in South Mumbai, this elevated track is Mumbai’s first jungle walkway. Inspired by Singapore’s Forest Walk, the eco-friendly structure will soon be open to the public.
Measuring 470 metres in length and 2.4 metres in width, the walkway has many notable features, including a glass-bottom viewing deck, a dedicated bird-watching area, and views of Girgaon Chowpatty.
BMC has invested ₹25 crore in this project, which was tendered in 2021. To ensure its upkeep, officials have stated that the walkway will be largely maintenance-free, with the revenue generated from ticket sales offsetting the operational costs.
