Good news for roadtrippers! After several delays, the 466-km-long four-lane expansion of the Mumbai-Goa Highway is finally nearing completion, with authorities setting a May-June 2025 deadline. Currently taking around 12-13 hours, the journey will now be reduced to just 6 hours — stretching from Panvel in Navi Mumbai to Sindhudurg, passing through Raigad and Ratnagiri.
More interchanges, less travel time!
The upgraded Mumbai-Goa Highway, spanning from Panvel in Navi Mumbai to Sindhudurg, is set to feature 14 strategic interchanges, enhancing accessibility and connectivity. However, key sections including bypasses and flyovers in towns like Mangaon, Indapur, and Chiplun are still under construction, contributing to repeated delays and cost escalations. Originally estimated at ₹3,500 crore, the project’s budget has now surged to ₹7,300 crore, according to a TOI report.
Despite setbacks, authorities assure that major road sections will be completed before the monsoon. The 84 km Panvel-Indapur stretch is being developed by NHAI, while the remaining sections fall under the PWD’s scope.
Once operational, the highway will not only cut travel time between Mumbai and Goa in half but also serve as a catalyst for trade, tourism, and economic growth along the western coast.
