Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has boosted its passenger processing abilities with the rollout of 44 additional terminal entry eGates. This expansion at CSMIA adds to the highest count of e-Gates at kerbside/landside in India, bringing the total number of these gates to 68. This has tripled the airport’s hourly passenger handling capacity to 7,440 at Terminal 2 and 2,160 at Terminal 1.
The additional e-Gates are part of CSMIA’s Digital Gateway program, which integrates technology, data analytics, and design thinking to streamline airport procedures. The initiative includes 68 eGates, up from 24, with T1 now featuring six dedicated DigiYatra eGates.

DigiYatra, a biometric system, allows passengers to pass through eGates without presenting tickets or ID. CSMIA plans to add 118 eGates at T2’s security check area, further streamlining the process.
The ‘Digital Gateways’ integrate IoT sensors, biometric face pods, and big data analytics. Additionally, AI and machine learning-enabled cameras enhance the security quotient. ‘Digi Buddies’ will assist first-time DigiYatra users with the automated systems.
