Mumbai is all set to welcome its first Amrit Bharat Express on April 24, a new-generation superfast train that will connect Saharsa in Bihar with Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Kurla. This will be the third Amrit Bharat Express to roll out nationwide, following the Darbhanga–Anand Vihar and Malda Town–SMVT Bengaluru services.
The route will link eastern Bihar to Mumbai, with the train passing through major junctions such as Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Danapur, Buxar, and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Mughalsarai), enhancing connectivity across key regions.
Set to redefine long-distance rail travel
Manufactured by Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, 200 more Amrit Bharat trains are already in progress nationwide, with 50 currently under construction and 150 more planned. This push-pull trainset features locomotives on both ends, eliminating time-consuming reversals and enabling speeds of 110-130 kmph. The non-air-conditioned, low-cost service is designed for journeys exceeding 800 km.
Passengers will enjoy improved amenities, including better-designed seats, expanded luggage racks, mobile charging points with holders, LED lighting, CCTV surveillance, and a public information system. The entire train operates with a vestibule configuration. The service is expected to reduce travel time between Saharsa and Mumbai to approximately 34 hours, running initially on a weekly schedule with potential frequency increases in the future.
