The Padmashree Ravindra Jain Chowk is more than just a Bandra landmark; it symbolises the remarkable journey of Jain, who went from singing bhajans in temples to composing music for over 200 films. His iconic compositions, including the timeless “Ram Teri Ganga Maili” and the epic TV series Ramayan, continue to resonate with audiences.
Born in 1944 in Aligarh, Ravindra Jain overcame the challenge of blindness to become a celebrated composer, lyricist, and playback singer. From soulful bhajans to Bollywood hits like Geet Gaata Chal and Chitchor, his music left an indelible mark on the industry. His contributions earned him the prestigious Padma Shri in 2015.
The chowk honours his legacy while reflecting Bandra’s vibrant artistic spirit. Nearby is the Ravindra Jain Academy of Music & Fine Arts, established in 2004, which continues his mission of nurturing talent and attracting music enthusiasts.
