In line with its newly approved Electric Vehicle Policy 2025, Maha government has decided to extend toll exemptions for electric vehicles to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. This decision follows similar waivers on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu). The state is expected to bear a cost of ₹3,000 crore over five years as part of its effort to push EV adoption.
Toll exemption to benefit thousands of EV users
Currently, around 8% of the 60,000 vehicles using the sea link daily are EVs. The one-way toll on the BWSL ranges from ₹100 for private cars to ₹210 for commercial vehicles. The decision to include the sea link in the waiver comes after growing public demand, and the government has given in-principle approval.
The state government is likely to issue a formal notification next week. A steering committee will be appointed to oversee the implementation of the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2025. This committee will also finalise the details of the BWSL toll waiver.
