Mumbai and its suburbs were soaked on June 9, as the southwest monsoon made an early entrance, beating its usual arrival date by two days. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a brief respite from heavy rains in Mumbai for the next few days, IMD’s Chief Scientist Sunil Kamble warned against “above-normal” June rainfall.

IMD’s Colaba and Santacruz observatories have already recorded a total rainfall of 118mm and 104mm, respectively, so far this season.
