In a first for Indian Railways, Western railway will launch a digital co-working lounge at Mumbai Central Terminus, making waiting time more productive. As per reports, the 1,712 sq. ft. air conditioned space will offer high speed Wi-Fi, charging ports, work stations, private cubicles and conference rooms.
This launch follows Western Railway’s earlier announcement of developing digital lounges on elevated decks at 17 Mumbai stations. The project is part of the broader ₹947 crore Station Improvement Project led by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation.

Inspired by European railway lounges, the upcoming facility will offer self-service refreshments, printing and scanning amenities, and spaces for small events or meetings. Designed to accommodate 20 to 50 users at a time, it will be accessible to both passengers and the general public on an hourly rental basis. Western Railway expects to generate around ₹50 lakh in annual revenue from this single location.
Officials highlight that the initiative is part of a larger push to modernise station infrastructure and boost non-fare revenue streams. The tech-enabled lounge also supports the goals of the Digital India campaign, aiming to transform transit hubs into smart, commuter-friendly spaces.
More such lounges are being considered at key stations like Andheri, Borivali, and Bandra Terminus under the ₹947 crore Station Improvement Project, aligning with Indian Railways’ vision of multi-functional, passenger-friendly hubs.
