Mumbai and its surrounding regions are bracing for extreme weather as the Regional Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for the city, Thane, and Palghar.

The forecast warns of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Konkan, with Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg placed under a more severe Red Alert.

Mumbai surpasses July rainfall average in two weeks

The city has already surpassed its average July rainfall within two weeks, with Santacruz weather station recording 1208 mm and Colaba observatory 1163 mm. This deluge has led to a significant rise in water levels of the seven lakes supplying the city, now at 35.11% capacity, equivalent to 5.08 lakh million litres, marking the highest one-day jump.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a high tide warning of waves measuring 3.18 meters, expected around 6:56 PM today.

Flight disruptions anticipated

Airline Vistara warned that flights to and from Mumbai may be impacted due to bad weather and advised customers to allow more time for airport journeys.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs, with an increase in cloud cover by the afternoon or evening. Moderate to heavy rain showers and cloudy conditions are expected to persist throughout the week, gradually lessening in intensity.
