Two new metro lines went live in Mumbai on Thursday, and for thousands of daily commuters, it changes everything. Metro Line 9 now connects Dahisar East to Kashigaon in Mira-Bhayandar, while Line 2B links Mandale in Mankhurd to Diamond Garden in Chembur, two corridors that slash notoriously brutal commutes from over an hour down to roughly 30 minutes.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis flagged off the launch, calling it a step toward a seamlessly connected Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Both lines are partial stretches for now, with full operations expected by end- 2027. But the relief is immediate, real, and frankly, long overdue.
