July 2025, the driest in 10 years
July, traditionally the wettest month in the city, recorded only 787.8 mm of rain at Santacruz, falling short of the average 840.7 mm. This marks a significant dip, making July 2025 one of the driest in the past decade. In contrast, the city had exceeded the monthly rainfall average for nine consecutive years, with 2023 setting a record of 1734 mm.
The current lull is expected to continue for 8-10 days, with the next intense downpour likely only in mid-August. As the monsoon enters a temporary pause along the West Coast, Mumbaikars can enjoy relief from waterlogged streets, though the break may be short-lived as heavier rains loom on the horizon.
