Aviation industry officials confirmed that a thick blanket of fog caused several flights disruptions on Thursday, particularly affecting eight flights on the Kolkata–Mumbai and Mumbai–Kolkata route. Additionally, four flights faced delays on the Mumbai–Guwahati and Guwahati–Mumbai routes. Further, two flights on the Mumbai–Leh and Leh–Mumbai routes were also affected. By 4 pm, in total, at least 28 flights arriving or departing from Mumbai were delayed.
A warm weekend ahead
Following a weekend of blistering temperatures above 35°C, Mumbai enjoyed a bit of relief on Wednesday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum of 32.2°C, while Colaba registered a slightly cooler 31.2°C.
However, IMD forecasts temperatures will climb back to 35°C by Friday, and could surpass 36°C between Saturday and Sunday. As per reports, the warmer weather is here to stay for at least the next five days, with no sign of a cool-down before January 28.
