In a move towards improving hygiene and dignity for women in underserved communities, India’s first-ever mobile bathroom for women has been inaugurated in Kandivali East, Mumbai. The unveiling ceremony, held at Hanuman Nagar, was attended by prominent political figures. The project is aligned with the vision of Swachh Bharat (Clean India) and is set to offer practical solutions to pressing sanitation challenges.

A specially designed bus equipped with five bathrooms, with showers and basins.

The bus has a water storage capacity of 2,100 litres

The facility also includes two clothes dryer machines

The entire setup is powered by generators.

The mobile bathroom will remain operational for 12 hours daily, specifically serving women in the Kandivali Assembly constituency.
To ensure smooth and efficient operation, female staff will be on hand to oversee the process, preventing wastage of water or time. Each woman will be allocated 5 to 10 minutes to bathe, after which the water supply will be automatically cut off.
