The 125-year-old Elphinstone Road Over Bridge (ROB), a east-west link in central Mumbai connecting Parel and Prabhadevi, will be closed to vehicular traffic from April 10. The closure will last two years to facilitate demolition and reconstruction under the Sewri-Worli Elevated Connector project by MMRDA.
The closure is expected to affect traffic flow in Dadar, Lower Parel, Curry Road, and Bharatmata areas. Meanwhile, to manage congestion, Mumbai Police has planned traffic diversions and designated no-parking zones in nearby localities.
In view of proposed demolition of Elphinstone Bridge, following traffic diversions/regulations are proposed.

Citizens invited to share feedback
Residents can send suggestions or objections regarding the traffic plan to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) via email at addiep.traffic@mahapolice.gov.in by April 13, 2025.

If no objections are raised, the bridge will be closed within 5–6 days of the deadline.

If objections are submitted, authorities will review them before taking further action.
What’s replacing the old bridge?
The existing 13-metre-wide, 1.5-lane bridge will be replaced by a modern four-lane double-decker bridge:

Lower deck: Will replace the old bridge, connecting Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and Senapati Bapat Road.

Upper deck: Part of the 4.5-km Sewri-Worli Elevated Connector, linking the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu).
As of now, 60% of the elevated connector’s construction is complete.
