The commute between Mumbai’s Nariman point and Colaba takes around 20 minutes during peak traffic hours, this is due to the road network between both the spots stretching to a distance of 5 kms. Although a possible linkage could reduce the distance to merely 1.6 km. Acknowledging the same, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed a sea link plan which will facilitate a seamless flow of traffic between the points.
More about the project
The missing sea link project between both the points has been in plans since 2008. Now, with the availability of better technology and advanced engineering processes, MMRDA has rolled out a fresh tender for the bidder, regarding the construction of the sea link.
Furthermore, the authority has also sought permission including certain environmental permits and security clearance as the sea link will pass through the naval and coast guard areas.
Reportedly, the link will be the third one in the city after the Bandra-Worli sea link and the Bandra-Versova sea link which is under construction.
