Mumbai’s long-awaited Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) extension will officially open today, on August 14, significantly easing east-west travel across the city. The extension, developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), features a striking cable-stayed bridge, South Asia’s first with a sharp 100-meter horizontal curve.
This design not only ensures smoother traffic flow but also avoids disruption to the Mumbai Metro Line 3 tunnels and surrounding infrastructure.
Signal-Free passage with unique curved bridge
MMRDA’s ₹650 crore SCLR extension features an engineering marvel, South Asia’s first 90-degree curved cable-stayed bridge. Rising 25 meters above WEH, this 215-meter wonder creates a signal-free corridor from Kurla to the airport, slashing travel time by 15-20 minutes.
