Mumbai has been drenched in relentless rainfall since Thursday morning, and the forecast is far from sunny. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the weekend.
Recent measurements highlight the intensity of rainfall in parts of Mumbai: Colaba recorded 101.0 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, accumulating to 79.3 mm since 8:30 am on July 18. This brings the seasonal total to 1303.1 mm, exceeding the average by 297.5 mm. Meanwhile, Santacruz received 50.2 mm in the past day, with a total of 44.0 mm since 8:30 am, pushing its seasonal rainfall to 1314.2 mm—247.1 mm above the average.

Disruption in Mumbai’s Public Transport

Heavy downpours since early morning on July 19 has further disrupted railway and bus services in Mumbai, causing significant inconvenience to thousands of commuters. The incessant rain resulted in water-logging on roads and railway tracks, severely affecting public transport. Moreover, the suburban trains, are running at least 15 to 20 minutes late.
According to railway officials, tracks at Chunabhatti on the Harbour line are submerged due to heavy showers coinciding with high tide. This combination poses a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, as water struggles to drain into the sea during high tide periods.
As Mumbai residents brace for more challenges from the ongoing weather, authorities remain on high alert, urging precaution and readiness.
