If you’ve recently traveled along Panjarapol Road, you may have noticed a new addition to the city streets. Intriguing yellow boxes with criss-cross lines have appeared at the busy junction, courtesy of the AMC (Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation).
These yellow box junctions have been introduced as a measure to combat traffic congestion and ensure a smooth flow of vehicles.
Yellow boxes at 25 selected busy junctions across the city
Ahmedabad has developed a reputation for its adherence to traffic rules. However, with the constant increase in vehicular traffic, the AMC recognized the need to implement additional regulations to address congestion at major crossroads and facilitate smoother vehicle movement.
Consequently, the AMC has decided to introduce yellow boxes at 25 selected busy junctions across the city, starting with Panjarapol. According to the rules, motorists should refrain from entering these yellow boxes unless they have a clear exit or are waiting to turn right.
These yellow boxes are typically placed at junctions that experience high levels of traffic congestion, as well as in proximity to fire stations or ambulance stations where emergency vehicle movements are frequent. “The purpose of these boxes is to keep the junction clear for through-traffic, thereby preventing traffic jams,” explained a senior civic official.
AMC also plans to implement a fine structure for violators
To enforce compliance, the AMC plans to implement a fine structure for violators of the yellow box rule, similar to the penalties imposed for crossing stop lines. Sources indicate that the AMC and the city traffic police are training artificial intelligence programs installed in CCTV cameras throughout the city to capture the registration numbers of vehicles that violate the rule.
Through the introduction of these yellow boxes and the associated penalties for violations, the AMC aims to improve traffic flow and alleviate congestion issues in Ahmedabad’s busy areas.
