Kanpur's first indoor multi-sports complex nears completion

Under the ambit of the Smart City initiative, Kanpur Municipal Corporation is coming up with a one-of-its-kind complex in the city soon. Located at the Palika Stadium campus, this will be the first-ever indoor sports complex in Kanpur. With the completion of the Sports Convention Centre of Phase 1, this ambitious project is in its final leg of construction now.

A boon for sports enthusiasts of Kanpur

In a bid to boost the sports infrastructure of Kanpur, the civic body is undertaking the construction work in a fast-track mode. As per reports, while Phase 1 of this project is already completed, the indoor stadium is likely to be completed in the next six months. Upon completion, this place will become a one-stop solution for all the sports enthusiasts in the city.

Multi-sports complex to be divided into 3 zones

Divided into three different zones, this maiden indoor sports complex will provide a platform for 22 type of indoor sports. Notably, Zone 1 will house a sports conference centre that can be used by sports federations and NGOs to organize sports-related workshops and conferences. Additionally, it can also be used for the distribution of prizes for sports-related competitions.

Zone 2 will have a gym for all age groups, a separate spa for males and females, physiotherapy room, kids playroom with billiards and an aerobics room on the ground floor. Zone 3 will come up with one of the largest indoor sports halls in Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, in the sports hall at the upcoming complex, seven badminton courts can be established in future. Alternatively, other sports such as table tennis, handball, basketball, judo, karate and wrestling can also be played here.

Apart from this, the upcoming multi-sports complex in Kanpur will be equipped with a dedicated parking space on the east side of the stadium as well. Reportedly, arrangements to park around 300 four-wheelers will be constructed here.
