In this one year, the number of riders only proves that Lucknowites have accepted the metro culture well. Even though only 8.9 km stretch of the metro is functional so far, almost 34.5 lakh passengers have travelled in it, in the first 12 months.

“The success of the Lucknow Metro is dedicated to Lucknowites, as 34.5 lakh passengers have used the service during the first 12 months. The Metro trains have travelled 6.8 lakh kilometres, which is equal to the distance of 17 rounds around the Earth. That’s why we have decided to celebrate the success of the Lucknow Metro on its anniversary at the Transport Nagar depot,” said MD LMRC Kumar Keshav said.

5th September was celebrated as Metro Divas for Lucknowites, as the metro first started functioning in the city on this day last year.  A grand celebration took place to mark the successful 1 year of the metro.

On the first metro divas day, UP CM CM Yogi Adityanath also inaugurated the metro app and the mascot of Lucknow metro.

Also, an exhibition took place at Charbagh in which, the journey of Lucknow Metro and its achievements were explained to the people.

Currently, about 3 lakh passengers travel in the Lucknow Metro per month, with metro being functional only at the 8.5 km priority stretch from Charbagh to Transport Nagar. Once the entire route is open, the numbers should increase to 2-3 lakhs per day.

Efforts are on in full swing to complete the complete North-South corridor by March 2019. After which the construction of East-West corridor may begin.
