Despite various mitigation and preventive measures by the UP Health Dept and Lucknow Municipal Corporation, Lucknow reported 39 new dengue-positive cases on Tuesday. Reportedly, this is the second-highest, single-day spike after the 42 cases which were reported last Thursday.

Out of all, Alambagh reported eight cases, followed by six cases in Aliganj, four each in Sarojninagar and Indiranagar, and three each in Tudiyaganj, NK Road, and Silver Jubilee and the remaining from other localities in Lucknow.

Lucknow CMO launches screening drive

Since this mosquito-borne viral disease spreads widely during the rainy season, the Lucknow CMO, in collaboration with LMC has initiated various drives including anti-larvae drives, fogging and door-to-door screening. One of the major causes of the rampant spread of Dengue is waterlogging during and after a spell of rainy season, leading to a total of 375 Dengue cases since January 2022.

In the past 7 days, Lucknow has reported a total of 201 infections, out of which 42 were reported in Chinhat, followed by 38 cases in Indira Nagar, 37 in Aliganj, 30 in Alambagh, 21 in Krishna Nagar and 11 in Sarojni Nagar.

In order to curb the spread, the health department has been ordered to carry out a special drive, under which at least 60 nearby houses will be screened at every single dengue case in a locality.

Notice issued to houses with favourable mosquito breeding conditions

Meanwhile, a joint team of the health department and the Malaria Department surveyed 1,167 houses. The drive covered several affected areas, including Alambagh, Aliganj, Indira Nagar, Hazratganj, Sarojininagar, Tudiyaganj and Chowk, among others.

The survey specifically studied mosquito breeding conditions and other aspects favouring mosquito breeding. A total of 28 houses reported dengue mosquito larvae. Subsequently, an anti-larva drive was initiated and a notice was issued to the owner of the houses.
