In a first, Rajasthan’s Nagaur district gets a seven-storey well-organised birdhouse in the Peeh village. Seated at the foothills of Aravalli Hills in the Parbatsar Tehsil, this seven-floored tower has been constructed by Chanchaldevi Baldevi Lunawat Trust from Ajmer. After the official housewarming ceremony last month, this 65 feet tall tower is all set to serve food, water and shelter to the feathered friends round the clock.

Built at the cost of ₹8 lakhs, this unique initiative is aimed to help the birds by providing them with all the needful amenities. This tower acts as a shed, protecting the birds from rains, harsh winters or the scorching heat during summers. Apart from the birdhouse, a water pool has also been set up for the birds.
Reportedly, land worth ₹1 crore was donated by philanthropists earlier in which a park for kids and a prayer room for seniors was constructed. In addition, a small part of the land was also allocated that was used as a pigeon shed while this birdhouse came in as an additional attraction.
The president of the trust, Nathmal Duggad said, “Interest earned from the bank on FDs deposited in trust’s account is used for birds here. At present ₹50 lakh is deposited in the bank account. The principal amount is never used”.

Notably, a total of 400 trees and saplings including 100 Ashoka trees have been planted on the land. Inaugurated on January 14, 2014, by Jain saints Roop Muni and Vinay Muni, this pigeon shed has been serving the birds for the last eight years. On a daily basis, five to six sacks of paddy are fed to the pigeons. At a cost of ₹3 lakhs, the paddy for birds is exported from Ajmer Mandi, four-five times a month. With the new house for birds, the consumption of paddy has also increased.
Touted to be India’s first well-organised pigeon house, this unique initiative aims to offer a safe space for birds. From providing shelter to the pigeons to selling highly nutritious dog food at a minimal price, Rajasthan sets the perfect example of co-existence between distinct species.
