As per a study conducted by the blood bank of the Government Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH), the worst-hit district by COVID-19 in MP, Indore has noted a steady climb in resistance to the coronavirus, in the last 3 months. Earlier, a sero-survey conducted between August 11 and 23 in Indore, demonstrated that antibodies against coronavirus were found only in 7.72% of the participants.
ICMR-approved ELISA kit used for antibody tests
Dr Ashok Yadav, the head of MYH’s blood bank, was quoted saying, “We tested antibodies of 1,323, 1,128 and 1,590 blood samples during September, October and November respectively. Of these, IgG antibodies against COVID-19 have been detected in 197, 367 and 615 samples respectively.”
An analysis of the available data concluded that out of a total of 4,041 samples of new blood deposited in the MYH blood bank in the last three months, IgG antibodies were found in 29% (1,179) samples. Yadav also added that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-approved ELISA kit was used for the antibody tests.
Blood samples of recovered corona patients not included
The blood samples which were tested randomly, belonged to people between the age group of 18 to 60 years but samples from individuals, who have recovered from the virus, were not included. The study further outlined that there was a month-on-month increase in immunity against COVID-19 in the city, between the months of September and November. During the course of the survey, the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of the central government, aided in the collection of 7,103 blood samples.
As yet, Indore has reported 46,971 confirmed corona victims, with a tally of 41,007 recoveries and 796 fatalities. Additionally, 5,168 cases are still active in the city.
