Based on the Swach Survey that is conducted by the MoHUA, the district of Indore has topped the conclusive list for the fourth time this year! The city has received an invitation to the Swachh Mahostsav organised by the Central Government on August 20 to receive due acknowledgement for the same.

Indore has managed to secure the first position in the Sawchh Survekshan list of 2020 followed by Capital Bhopal. The Nation-wide ranking of the cleanest cities of India will be declared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India on August 20 during the Swachh Mahostsav that will broadcast via a webinar. The programme will be conducted in the presence of the Prime Minister who will also address the nation along with the Union Minister for Urban Development and Housing.

It is the 4th time that Indore has topped the survey list. Indore has also won title awards for three consecutive years in the Meteropolis category for the same. However, what makes this nomination special is the fact that Indore’s Mhow Cantonment Board Area is the only cantonment area in the country to be included in the list. Besides Indore, 8 other cities of Madhya Pradesh have been listed including Bhopal, Jabalpur, Burhanpur, Ratlam, Sehore, Shahganj, and Kantafod.
Conducted under the purview of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), the Swachh Survekshan (Sanitation Survey) is the largest urban sanitation and cleanliness survey in the world. It has managed to encourage and mobilise people, resources and authorities to be accountable for the cleanliness of their city- and prove that their district is the cleanest among all others present in the country. Every year, districts come up with new modules and practices to ensure that they are included in the list of this survey. This in turn creates active awareness among citizens, resulting in cleaner cities and positive behaviour changes towards cleaning, which is the primary purpose of this survey.
