In light of constantly rising COVID-19 positive cases in Indore, the Madhya Pradesh Government has cancelled the Global Investors’ Summit that was to be held in the city. As per the initial schedule, the summit was scheduled to be held in February. The meet was planned to take place in both physical and virtual mode to aid industrialists during the coronavirus outbreak.

This biennial meeting is a pivotal assembly that attracts domestic and foreign investments to Madhya Pradesh, cultivating the landscape of commercial growth and new job opportunities here. However, the emergent poignant rise of the coronavirus infection has pushed the summit to a later date this year.
MPIDCL Managing Director, Rohan Saxena shared, “The summit has been cancelled due to the third wave of COVID-19. Now it will be held later this year. The new dates will be decided after the evaluation of the condition of COVID-19. All the investors are being informed about it.” Last time, this meet was held under the banner of the ‘Magnificent MP Summit’ in 2019.

Indore reported a total of 3,169 new positive cases on Friday, pushing the city’s active caseload to an all-time high. The tally further scaled during the weekend and as of January 23, Indore is actively nursing a total of 20,340 coronavirus cases. This is reportedly the biggest active case count number since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
Indore last recorded 18,607 active cases in May, during the peak of the delta-driven second wave of the pandemic. The number has exceeded significantly now, making the city in the high-risk zone. As such, several strict preventive restrictions are in order here, pressing the need to cancel the summit.
