In a move to spread awareness about organic activities, Government Holkar Science College in Indore will get a kitchen garden soon. Reportedly, the college administration has already initiated the plan, which entails provisions for training students, teachers, staff members and city residents for instituting similar gardens at their homes. The interested individuals will be informed about the best practices so that they can grow organic fruits and vegetables within the confines of their homes.
Upcoming kitchen garden to be a weightless facility

As per reports, the new facility will be set up on the rooftop of the new building, constructed recently to accommodate nine labs. It will be set up like a weightless facility, which means that a lesser quantity of mud will be used for this intervention. In place of plain mud, vermicompost and cocopeat will be utilised here.
According to the plans, students will also be able to conduct research studies at the institute. Reportedly, the principal of the college informed that efforts have been started for this project, which is being led by Prof. Dharmendra Jat.
200 individuals to be trained every month

Reportedly, the principal said that citizens were affected by a dearth of vegetable supplies, noticed during the course of the pandemic. These times highlighted the need of being self-sufficient, which is possible through organic farming in homes. Now, the latest initiative will train the city folks to set up their own kitchen gardens.
The technical department of the college is working on this scheme, where in the problems encountered during its implementation will also be assesed and analysed. Based on this, research will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Kamala Shivani and Dr. Sanjeeda Iqbal. The current aim is to train 200 individuals through this project every month. While this scheme will aid the institute to realise its social objectives, it would also create awareness about organic products.
Training sessions to include a large number of housewives

Under this initiative, workshops and seminars will be conducted to educate the people about curating a kitchen garden. Further, the officials plan to include a large count of housewives, who can work on their kitchen gardens during free time. Given the dynamic demands of the present age, such inventive measures have become the need of the hour. If the plans turn into reality, the Holkar College will contribute significantly to the lives of the citizens.
