In a bid to facilitate easy and rapid east-west vehicular mobility on Tonk Road, the Jaipur Development Authority has decided to build a new underpass at the B2 Bypass Junction. Standing perpendicular to the Tonk Road, the road is proposed to be a 400-meter-long 6-lane project, ballparked at a ₹155 crore budget. As per reports, the provisions for a safe pedestrian subway will also be set up here.
Construction & beautification project to be rolled out soon
The Tonk Road, being a nexus point to Ajmer, Jagatpura, Kota and Jaipur, harbours critical traffic. This point also holds nodal connectivity from Durgapura to Sanganer and Pratap Nagar residential colonies to Sitapura industrial area.
As per the feasibility study report, the connecting roads of the bypass offers connectivity to hotels, wedding areas, shopping malls, hospitals and airport terminal in the vicinity, increasing the vehicular load. Thus, the development of the tabled project will resolve traffic woes, accidents and other inconveniences at the busy junction.
Besides pivotal construction, the civic body has also been awarded administrative and financial (A&F) approval for traffic regulation and beautification work at the site of the project. Officials informed that the A&F authority was handed during a PWC meeting, after relevant corrections and modifications were made in the project report.
Underpass construction to clash with Jaipur Metro Phase-II operations
Additionally, two 600-meter cloverleaf structures will also be constructed here. This will regulate the movement of vehicles towards Jawahar Circle and Mansarovar from Tonk Road. A pedestrian subway and a 36-meter high monument will also be installed at the development site.
It may be noted that the operations of this project will clash with the proposed works of the Jaipur Metro Phase-II. It is feared to not only ruin the Jaipur city skyline but also increase the cost of the Metro project in future.
As per reports, a metro station has been proposed at the site of the underpass and cloverleaf. For the two infra projects to co-exist, the metro station will have to stand approximately at 35-feet in the middle of the city. This will increase the cost of material, labour and thus, the overall budget.
