UP Metro Rail Corporation has successfully installed 400 out of the 513 pillars intended for Kanpur Metro’s Priority Corridor. Stretching for 9km, from IIT-Kanpur to Motijheel, this is an overhead corridor from where the Kanpur Metro will be flagged off for its maiden run, by next year as per project timeline. Pillars supporting this elevated route have been raised for a 7km section, marking another milestone for UPMRC and Kanpur Metro.
Rapid construction for rapid transport
Civil construction work of the Kanpur Metro has set the pace and an overall rapid development-rate has been targetted to open the metro services as early as possible for the people. In addition to the track-laying, metro engineers have also completed the installation of double T-girders at all 5 stations between IIT-Kanpur and Gurdev Metro Station. This pre-built structure has helped in completing the base work of the concourse-level at these platforms.
All nine stations of the Kanpur Metro Priority Corridor will get double T-girders for a quick, easy and concrete construction, totalling to about 434 such structures. Out of these, around 332 have already been erected; completing major work. Civil engineers, district metro officials and contractors have been lauded by the Managing Director, UPMRC for setting an excellent pace since the beginning of the project.
He further committed to carrying out metro work with efficiency, while constantly developing scopes of increasing limits and capacity. The Managing Director has tagged it imperative to conduct the trial runs in November this year, which will help in achieve its goals, as promised, providing ease of rapid travel to Kanpurites.
