In order to resolve the traffic issues in Lucknow, it has been announced that thirty one-way roads in the city shall be converted into one-way routes. While work has been initiated on 17 routes, another 13 have also been identified for this purpose. All of these roads shall be equipped with ‘one-way’ signboards and police officials will also be deployed on them. Additionally, the current proposals entail that one-way routes shall be declared around some schools for a period of 2 hours.
A move to dampen traffic load and facilitate better management of traffic
Speaking to Knocksense, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Khyati Garg said, “This strict step is being undertaken to dissolve excessive traffic jams in Lucknow and provide easier commute for the residents. We expect that this measure will dampen the traffic load and a better system shall be established. The municipal corporation will install specific signboards on these one-way routes.”
As of now, Lucknow has 22 one-way routes. With the establishment of the new ones, the authorities attempt to expand the welfare for regular travellers. The thirteen new routes have been marked in Hazratganj, Wazirganj, Aliganj, Qaisabragh and Aminabad areas. While the vehicular movement will be allowed from Park Road(Civil Hospital) to Rajbhawan Chauraha, DM House to Press Club, Hazratganj Chauraha to Park Road, the reverse traffic will be prohibited. In Wazirganj, the road from Balrampur Dhal Chauraha to Neera Nursing Home will also be a one-way route.
One way routes in Aliganj, Qaisarbag and Aminabad
In Aliganj, Sushant Golf City and Aminabad, the roads from Dandaiyya Chauraha to Neera Nursing Home, Ahimamau Shaheed Path Chauraha to Best Price turn, Nazeerabad Chauraha to Naaz Cinema Road will be converted into one-way routes, respectively.
Apart from this, Aminabad will have five one-way routes including Anand Cinema Chauraha to Nazeerabad Vahan Chauraha, Chhatri Wala Chauraha to Old post office Chauraha. Besides, roads from Nazeerabad Chauraha to Guin Road, Jhandewalan Park, Vahan Sugnamal tri-crossing are also included in this scheme.
2-hour one way around prominent schools in the city
Among notable institutions in the city, schools like Saint Francis and Cathedral face a lot of traffic coupled with blocked roads during peak hours. With an objective to ensure the safety of the students, routes around the schools shall be made one-way for a window of two hours, facilitating better management of traffic. During this time, vehicles will be allowed to commute from the LIC building in Hazratganj to the Bank of India crossing and Commissioner’s residence and not the other way round.
