King George’s Medical University is all set to expand its expertise by setting up three new super-speciality departments – cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery and medical oncology. The new facilities will be launched as a part of the several initiatives planned by the University to refine the current standard of its medical infrastructure. As per reports, the medical institute will also revive its liver and kidney transplant units in the near future.
Designated departments for specialised medical procedures
Famed across Uttar Pradesh for providing unmatched medical facilities, KGMU Lucknow has now launched itself into the field of specialised-surgical excellence with 3 new super-speciality departments. Until now, KGMU’s cardiovascular thoracic surgery department undertook surgery of all organs inside the thoracic cavity, including the heart and lungs. Over-burdened with work and cases, this unit handled everything which led to long waitlists for patients.
However, the two new departments will function separately thereby, considerably balancing the work and patient load. The separation of tasks will also lead to the development of specialised, state-of-the-art facilities at KGMU with expert counsel and guidance. While the cardiovascular surgery department will treat issues related to the heart, including arteries, veins and lymphatic circulation, the thoracic surgery unit will look after organs of the chest, including lungs, food pipe, trachea and chest wall.
The Vice-Chancellor reportedly stated that the recruitments have been concluded and with the infrastructure ready, the convenience of the 3 new services will be launched soon.
