Maharashtra approves redevelopment plan for MHADA Colonies in Mumbai
The Maharashtra state cabinet approved a major redevelopment plan for MHADA housing in Mumbai and its suburbs. The initiative targets old, deteriorating buildings in colonies of 20 acres or more, aiming to provide modern, safe, and affordable homes. The plan also emphasises community development with schools, healthcare, and green spaces. MHADA will oversee 114 projects, ensuring safety and design standards, with residents’ concerns addressed through formal approvals.
Metro Line 8 to link Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airports as NMIA opens this December
With the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) opening on December 25, Metro Line 8 (Gold Line) is on the cards to provide much-needed connectivity. This 35 km corridor will link NMIA with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and key areas like Kurla and LTT. The project, costing ₹23,000 crore, will feature 20 stations and is expected to serve 10.3 lakh passengers daily by 2031, integrating with other Metro lines and suburban networks.
IIT Bombay introduces mental health and well-being course for freshers
IIT Bombay has introduced a mandatory mental health and well-being course for first-year students. As part of the Pass–No Pass category, students must attend four mental health workshops per semester. The course, offered through the Flourishing Hub, covers topics like stress management, life skills, and substance abuse awareness. IIT Bombay is also hosting a National Wellbeing Conclave in partnership with 79 institutions to promote student mental health initiatives.
10th Global Economic Summit held in Mumbai
The 10th Global Economic Summit (GES) and WTCA Asia Pacific Conference were hosted by the World Trade Centre, Mumbai, and AIAI, bringing together ministers, diplomats, and business leaders to explore trade opportunities. Maharashtra Minister Pankaja Munde highlighted the state’s efforts toward a $1 trillion economy by 2027, focusing on sustainability, FDI, and sectors like agriculture and IT. Mumbai to build underground tunnels to tackle traffic
Mumbai is set to build an extensive network of underground tunnels to increase the city’s average speed to 80 km/h by 2032, up from 15-20 km/h during peak hours. Mumbai faces surge in cyber fraud, losses top ₹2,000 Crore
Mumbai is facing a rise in cyber financial fraud, with nearly 20,000 cases since 2020 and losses exceeding ₹2,000 crore. Victims, including businesswomen and retirees, are often left without reimbursement due to banks ignoring RBI’s zero-liability rules. Frauds include card cloning, ATM scams, and OTP sharing, with minimal recoveries. Experts blame systemic failures, such as data leaks and weak security, for the rising fraud rate.
Mumbai’s Central Railway recovers ₹40.59 Crore in penalties
Central Railway’s Mumbai Division detected 9.63 lakh cases of irregular travel, recovering ₹40.59 crore in penalties, between April and October 2025. AC locals, first-class, and second-class coaches saw significant violations, with over 3,000 daily cases in second-class coaches alone. In October, 1.34 lakh cases were detected, yielding ₹6.16 crore. A dedicated AC Local Ticket Checking Squad now addresses fare violations, recovering over ₹1 lakh daily.
