In a strive to decongest Indore city roads, the Indore Development Authority (IDA) last week proposed to construct four of the 11 flyovers tabled by the Chief Minister under a two-phase plan. A sum of ₹300 crores has been allocated to construct these stretches at Khajrana, Tantya Bhil Square (Bhawarkuan), Mhow Naka and Luvkush Square, on priority. This roadway facelift is set to streamline the flow of vehicular movement in Indore, presenting people with state-of-the-art commute means for easy travel.

The Indore Development Authority (IDA) Chairman, Jaypal Singh Chawda on Wednesday called for a meeting with local public representatives, senior administrative associates and officials of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) to discuss the feasibility survey of constructing six-lane flyovers at four key junctions of the city.

In an attempt to make an end-to-end smart commute, the IDA has decided to install flyovers at Khajrana and Luvkush Square in harmony with metro-line crossing. Consequently, the facility at Khajrana Square will be developed on Ring Road while that on Luvkush Square will be constructed on Super Corridor and MR-10 Road.

Another flyover will be constructed at Tantya Bhil Square (Bhawarkuan), parallel to the AB Road, while a two-branched stretch will be developed at Mhow Naka Square, starting from Lal Bagh Palace and ending towards Labriya Bheru Square.

Construction of flyovers to being this year

Despite the presence of various traffic management provisions, all four junctions shortlisted in the meeting are some of the most traffic-prone areas in the city. The road facelift project here, hence, is expected to facilitate commuters. Reportedly, the consultant company has completed and submitted the feasibility survey of the same, budgeting the entire scheme at a ₹300-crore budget.

The proposal for the flyover development will be tabled in the next meeting of the IDA Board of Directors. Allotment of tenders will follow soon. IDA officials are looking forward to starting the construction work of these roads this calendar year. The other seven flyovers will be undertaken in phase II, which will undertake the construction of flyovers at Vijay Nagar, Depalpur Square, Hotel Radisson Square, Regal Square, Musakhedi Square, Robot Square and IT Square.
