Adding to the medical infrastructure available in Indore, a new genome sequencing lab shall be established on the premises of MGM Medical College. Reportedly, the District Commissioner, Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, issued directives for the tender process on Wednesday, to procure new machines and equipment for the upcoming centre. Once this laboratory is set up, samples will be checked for different viruses and varied COVID strains in the city itself, without the hassles of examinations in Delhi.
Hastened investigation of samples to benefit the administration
With the inception of the new facility, Indore is set to have amplified resources for gauging the state of the pandemic. After the start of operations at this lab, samples would be tested quickly for the presence of different COVID strains, given the reduction of transportation time. Further, it has also been reported that the city might soon face the need for a similar centre in the private sector too.
Focused steps being undertaken to combat the third wave
As per reports, the commissioner summoned a departmental meeting of officials, where the preparations for tackling the effects of an expected third wave were assessed. This meeting was attended by the Dean of MGM Medical College, Dr. Sanjay Dixit, heads of various departments from the institute, CMHOs and other medical experts. As per reports, it was stated that different COVID variants are being analysed at different levels.
Additionally, the commissioner has asked for a detailed report in the next meeting so that streamlined interventions can be initiated. In view of the anticipated third wave, it is essential that the medical fraternity is completely prepared to deal with it. Thereby, the commissioner has instructed CMHOs to implement measures for training doctors and paramedical staff for sound treatment and care of pregnant women, newborn babies and children. Reportedly, the authorities informed that the training schedules have already commenced in half of the districts.
