Indore has reported the highest dengue cases in 6 years. As per reports, around 17 fresh cases were recorded here in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 384 cases. According to the health department, around nine males and eight females contributed to the day’s dengue count, marking the rise of an endemic in the city.

The rise of dengue disease and other viral infections in Indore, during the past week, has taken a toll on the city dwellers. While the caseload was on the dipping range until Saturday, the spike on Sunday aggravated an ascending rise, yet again, raising concerns in its wake. Notably, the period also marked the first dengue hospitalisation of the season in Indore. In this short duration, about 12 others have been admitted to health centres across the district, for clinical attention.
The District Malaria Officer reportedly stated that the dengue prevalence in Indore has presently clocked over 1 unit. He further elaborated on the various ongoing state initiatives to prevent the rising spread. The Madhya Pradesh government has launched a targetted defence against the vector-borne disease, under the banner of its Dengue se Jung – Janta ke sang campaign, he added.
Several field activities, like larvae destruction and fogging drives, have also been conducted here. Special awareness programmes about dengue spread and precautions are also being run in the state to maximise the defence against dengue.

The dengue-causing ‘Aedes Aegypti’ mosquito usually breeds in contaminated water, that accumulates in flower pots, broken objects, coolers, semi-constructed areas among other isolated or neglected areas. To combat the effects of the disease, people are advised to keep a check on public sanitation in their locale as well as in the vicinity of their homes. They should also be aware of other crucial prevention measures to prevent dengue contraction.
