Propelled by soaring COVID tallies in the city, the count of critical cases has increased significantly in Indore and so has the usage of plasma therapies. Keeping this in view, the city administration in Indore Division has mandated that private hospitals can levy a maximum charge of ₹11,000 for conducting plasma therapies. This intervention was worked out after the authorities noticed that unjustified prices were being taken for plasma therapy.

As per reports, Indore divisional commissioner Pawan Sharma stated that a fee in the range of ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 was being charged by the private hospitals for the administration of plasma to COVID patients. Now, with the implementation of this new order, patients across eight districts of Indore Division cannot be asked for more than ₹11,000 for plasma therapies.
According to reports, this directive will be applicable to hospitals in Indore, Dhar, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Khandwa and Burhanpur. Additionally, reports state that the price of ₹11,000/unit includes an antibody, HIV, Hepatitis and blood count tests.

It is noteworthy that this facility is being provided free of cost in the government hospital. As a part of this convalescent plasma transfusion, antibodies from a person who has recovered from COVID-19 get transferred to a COVID patient and the needed boost for the immune system is provided. This promotes a quick response in the recipient’s body, taking him on the path of recovery. While the medical fraternity debates over the expected efficacy of this measure, it has been found to reap desired results so far.
