In a bid to promote Madhya Pradesh’s domestic health infrastructure, the state government is mulling over the establishment of its first Medical Devices Parks in Ujjain. As per reports, the move comes under the banner of the Union’s ‘Promotion of Medical Devices Parks’ and is pegged to reduce the cost of medical devices here, promoting independent and affordable health provision across all districts.
Notably, a 200-acre plot at Vikram Udyogpuri has been earmarked for the medical park by virtue of its location, near Indore – the commercial capital of the state and the Delhi-Mumbai expressway.
Common medical infrastructure for affordable provisions

Originally, the MP government had planned to construct the Medical devices park at a 300-acre plot in the Hoshangabad district. However, the plan was later changed to shortlist Ujjain, given its accessible location stated official reports. The present plan aims to create a nodal unit in the park to support peripheral medical manufacturers across all MP districts, streamlining the availability and cost of medical devices in the state.
To put it simply, the medical park will provide integrated infrastructure facilities to develop medical aid and equipment to ease the accessibility of provisions in the local market, at affordable rates. It also envisions providing electricity and land to industries at subsidised rates, during its tenure of FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25.
As of now, four states in India, namely Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh have been granted the ‘in-principle’ approval by the Centre to set up Medical Parks. Each region will get a sanction of ₹100 crores to set up the medical park. The remaining cost will be incurred by the state.
