Recently, the Forest Department conducted a survey at Indore’s Ralamandal Wildlife Sanctuary in collaboration with an NGO named Wildlife and Nature Conservancy (WNC). The survey, which was held on Sunday, was an attempt to learn about the butterflies at the sanctuary in order to amp up conservation efforts for them.
But the survey had a surprise in store for the officials, who found rare butterfly species, that were not seen here previously.
The first-ever survey conducted on butterflies at the sanctuary
According to officials, this was the first survey conducted on the presence of butterflies at the wildlife sanctuary. The team consisted of 60 people, who were divided into four exploration teams. Starting early in the morning, the survey went on till 12 Noon.
The teams comprised senior officials of the Forest Department and the NGO, along with some retired forest officials, as well. The teams found some rare species, that were thus far never been spotted across Indore. These included Rice Swift, Red Flash, Painted Lady, Plains Royal Blue, and the Tri-coloured Pied Flat.
