Situated approximately 82 km from Indore is a gem of Mandu’s prominent tourist attractions, Baz Bahadur Mahal. This beautiful palace is said to be named after the last independent leader of Mandu, during whose reign the city was at its peak. Let’s take a virtual tour of this structure located on a hillslope, surrounded by scenic views and know about its legend and history!

A marvellous architectural blend

An inscription at the palace entrance gate states that this palace, though named after Baz Bahadur, was constructed by Sultan Nasiruddin Shah in 1508-09 A.D. Interestingly, the edifice of this architectural wonder showcases an amalgamation of Mughal styles and designs with Rajasthani trends. Further, echoing amid these historic walls is the love saga of Baz Bahadur and his consort, Roopmati.

The main gateway to the Baz Bahadur Mahal is approached by broad steps which are marked by landing intervals. This gateway leads to a passage that has arched designs on both ends and is dotted by rooms with vaulted ceilings. It is believed that these chambers were used by the palace guards. The central part of the palace has a fountain surrounded by rooms on all sides which were used for various purposes.

Know before you go!

The distance of 82 km between Indore and Mandu can be covered by road in almost 2 hours. While you are visiting the Baz Bahadur Mahal, do not forget to take short detours to visit the nearby attractions- Jahaz Mahal, Roopmati Pavillion and Hoshang Shah’s Tomb.

Knock Knock

If you wish to behold the breathtaking view of the Roopmati Pavilion in the foreground as the sun sets, then plan a visit to Baz Bahadur Mahal in Mandu. Apart from your COVID safety gear, do carry a camera to capture the beauty of this aesthetic countryside.
