Almost a month after the city officials decided to improve the condition of roads across two prominent localities in Lucknow, Indira Nagar residents still continue to suffer on account of broken and rough pathways. While some of the roads have been in a shabby state for a long time, the rains have only added to the troubles. Notably, the roads of A-Block, B-Block and other areas encircling the Bhootnath Market require immediate attention and maintenance to ease the commute for local dwellers.
Citizens across Indira Nagar encounter umpteen issues due to poor roads
Nisha Gupta, a retired teacher who resides in the A-Block region, travels daily to given tuitions to young kids. Speaking about her difficulties, she said, “Due to the potholes, the rickshaws and e-rickshaws rides are often a bumpy affair and sometimes, I get late for my classes too.” A number of citizens and regular commuters face similar issues, which makes it important for the authorities to take quick cognisance of the situation.
Diya Pandey, another local highlighted the heightened predicaments during the evening hours. She said, “When traffic peaks in the region, the travel time usually increases. Added to it, the rough roads hamper the smooth movement of vehicles and the probability of accidents also due to this.” The roads of A-Block, B-Block, Amrapali Market and the pathways leading to Faizabad are some of the stretches that cause inconvenience to the commuters.
Urgent streamlined measures, the need of the hour!
Pushyamitra Pandey, another resident said, “A few months back, the road at B-Block crossing caved in and the area of the pit increased thereafter. While temporary steps were taken to resolve the issue, the road was not rebuilt. It is important to deal with this issue on priority and take such efforts that can ascertain long-timed stability.”
In the past, the works of underground gas pipelines had also affected the roads and the restoration interventions have been stalled for a long time. Now, the count of pits and trenches have inflated, obstructing safe and easy travel for the locals. Despite reports of upcoming maintenance work in the last few days of August, no significant measures have been implemented.
Knock Knock
A smooth road network is one of the prime public amenities. In alignment with this, urgent action is required for the roads in Indira Nagar. While the authorities need to speed up the plans, amplified steps have to be taken to ensure the sustained durability of roads.
