Mumbai is set for a transportation upgrade with the upcoming launch of its first underground metro, the Aqua Line. The much-anticipated first phase is expected to begin in early October 2024, pending safety clearances.
MMRCL’s Managing Director, Ashwini Bhide, projects a daily ridership of 4.5 lakh passengers for this phase, while the complete 33.5 km corridor is expected to handle up to 13 lakh riders daily by 2025. Enhanced connectivity with existing transport options is also in the works, promising a seamless travel experience across the city.
Key Aqua Line Features: Mumbai’s first underground metro line

The Aqua Line spans 12.5 km, connecting Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), in 30 minutes.

It features 10 stations, providing access to both terminals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

Fares range from ₹10 to ₹50.

A total of 96 daily services are planned.

Trains will operate every 6.5 minutes from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM.
